- Croc-o-Style Kit

Sacrifices your overall killing speed/power for the Sniper vs. Sniper mirror match; only fully charged bodyshots will kill you. Note that a fully charged Huntsman headshot will kill you, but not an uncharged one, and this set also protects you from Ambassador headshots. Having the Bushwacka but no Jarate is kinda lame, though. I don't often see people nail the Sydney Sleeper Jarate-style effect and then successfully chase someone down with the Bushwacka.

A tactic that this set has opened is equipping the Ol' Snaggletooth hat (and perhaps the Darwin's Danger Shield, too) to trick your opponent into thinking you have the set on so they'll waste time trying to kill you with charged bodyshots, then surprise them with a headshot from the Sniper Rifle. This will probably only work briefly, but any psychological advantage helps when it comes to Sniping matches.

Exclusions:

- Kukri

Go with the Shiv or Bushwacka, this knife doesn't have anything special going for it.

- Shahanshah

Not a bad weapon, but its ability poses a problem. Ideally, you want to be at the highest health you can, at all times, so this weapon would be weaker for you most of the time, if you're playing well. The Shiv and the Bushwacka offer more consistent bonuses.

- Bazaar Bargain

The stats on it seem great on paper, but there's just one problem: you have to be a headshot machine to see any real benefit of using this weapon.

Looking at the numbers, it starts off with a 20% slower charge rate than the Sniper Rifle, and gains a 10% bonus per headshot. At 2 headshots in a row, it becomes the same as the Sniper Rifle, and at 3, it surpasses it by 10%. The maximum bonus is 50%, after nailing 7 headshots in a row. Nailing a scoped bodyshot lowers your saved up charge bonus, and a miss removes all of your bonus. This means that to get any benefit of this weapon, you have to have a literally perfect aim, and it discourages taking any risks on shots you're likely to miss. So basically, you stand around waiting for Heavies to headshot, missing tons of opportunities to help your team, for a minor bonus. Not worth it.

- Razorback

Though Spies cause a lot of trouble for Snipers that stay zoomed in a lot on a rifle, this item's use is extremely narrow. It stops a single backstab then breaks, so if you're not paying attention to the noise it makes when it breaks, the Spy can simply try to backstab you again in a couple of seconds. Because it breaks, you have to run back to spawn to get a new one. An Ambassador Spy can simply get a headshot off of you for free, then quickly try to kill you, or even just Revolver you to death, getting the surprise on you. The Enforcer will make especially quick work of you.

Not only that, the SMG and Jarate help you fight back against a Spy. Without those, all you have is no-scoped shots and melee, so while the Razorback will save you from the initial backstab, actually killing the Spy might prove difficult if he's pretty skilled. This weapon is especially bad if you're trying to stay near the front lines, because other enemies are more pertinent threats. It's use is so narrow, I could only really see using it if several of the following conditions are met at once:

-You're a fairly highly skilled Sniper, getting a lot of kills, and perhaps even capable of quick-scoping a headshot on an enemy Spy right in your face, or are at least decent at nailing consecutive no-scoped shots at a closeby enemy.

-You're good at melee attacking.

-Your team is defending you really well, to the point that only a Spy is likely to slip through your defenses.

-Your team isn't Spychecking that well.

-There are a lot of Spies on the enemy team.

-Your speakers don't allow you to hear footsteps that well.

-You're using the Sniper Rifle (since the Huntsman doesn't leave you scoped so you should be able to deal with Spies, and the Sydney Sleeper's really only good with particular loadouts.)

-You're fairly certain enemy Spy(s) aren't using/aren't good at using the Ambassador.

-The enemy Spy(s) aren't very goot at aiming their shots, period.

As you can see, the Razorback is much too situational to see anything but very occasional use.

That's it for this week's article; don't forget to vote on the next class to write on at our Vidya Parlor. Enjoy your headshots!
